My Story

31 Aug 2025

This September I'm riding for the 10th time in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer.

6 years ago, cancer hit close to home. My husband, daughter and one granddaughter carry the ATM mutation. My husband died in December of 2022 of pancreatic cancer our daughter is fighting breast cancer and side effects of chemotherapy, and our son-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and is fighting this wicked disease. On top of all this, our daughter-in-law's father has cancer, and son-in-law's mother recently died from side effects of cancer and its treatment. Research is the only way to eventually prevent cancer as well as find better treatments for our future generations. The mutations that make some more prone to cancer (my husband, one of our 4 kids and at least 1 grand child) needs more research!

My breastfeeding support is a start on cancer prevention but not enough, I am a believer in continuing research especially on immune therapies, nutrition and other ways to improve recovery chances.

Please support my 200 mile challenge by making a donation.

As a caretaker, I bike for mental health as well as to supporting this vital cause. Please help if you can, even if it is just being careful as you pass bikers. I'm planning on doing as much as my almost 80-year-old body will allow, I have committed to 200 miles, but my mind says do more, my body doesn't always agree with my mind.

Thank you for your support. Helping kids and their parents is my mission in my life.

Peggy

“Thank you Gwen! This cancer club is not a fun club and your donation helps kids with cancer and their parents leave the club even though the current treatments always stay with all involved. I hope with more research that will change. I have too many friends and family with cancer, and died from cancer, I understand.”

“Thank you Joy! Im not sure i will ever get out of the cancer caretakers club but hopefully with research fewer parents will experience it or at least kids and parents will have to deal with milder side effects of treatments. Cancer is wicked!”
