I'm Riding For
Daisy Sunshine

Daisy Sunshine was exactly that, an ever-smiling ray of sunshine. Hard-work and dedication to her studies is only part of the amazing Daisy. She never missed an opportunity to spin a good story, spill the tea, tell a good joke, or perform her latest choreography with her friends. She lives on in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be with me as a pedal the miles away in this year's challenge!
My Story
Hi there friends and family!
As many of you know, for the last several years in September, I have taken part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! This year, my efforts to raise awareness and money for cancer research is decidedly more personal. My school community where I have been a 6th grade teacher since 1994 is heart broken as we mourn the passing of two of our Wildcat family. We lost Daisy Sunshine far too early at the age of 14, and one of our most wonderful Wildcat moms, Janelle Mendoza. I will also be riding to support our amazing principal Cecilia Madrid as she battles cancer.
There are two reasons why I continuously do this ride. First, because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. That's not okay. I think we can all agree regardless of our politics, that kids should be living life, not fighting for it. Secondly, riding bikes is fun, and if my pedaling a bike can help someone, that is what I call a win-win!
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation, no matter how small or big to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you, friends!
Legacy note - I had two accounts which is why the legacy has gap years🤓 Official challenge rides begin in September.
