I'm Riding For
Gauge Reo Thornton 2/14/2013 - 10/21/2021
Gauge was the best kid, he loved all animals, and was down to try anything at least once, especially if it was outdoors. He loved being outdoors. Just after he turned 6 years old, on 3/05/2019 Gauge was diagnosed with Stage 3 Group 3 Rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate/bladder. He immediately started 42 weeks of chemotherapy, and 5 weeks of radiation to try and destroy his cancer. After completing treatment in July 2020 we were only going in for maintenance scans to see if it was staying stable or growing again. By the scan in April of 2021 they believed it had grown just enough to be concerned, so we did a full body scan to confirm it had indeed moved into his lungs. Gauge spent the last summer of his life (2021) traveling, shooting guns, fishing, playing and enjoying everything we possibly could. He was seemingly a normal 8 year old, happy and full of energy up until the last month of his life when he was on hospice and his body started shutting down. He was a goofball up to the very end even when he wasn't able to get up and do much. His mother Jamie and brother Trexler miss Gauge very much but they know he is guiding them from the cosmos. We love you Gauge!
My Story
This September, I’ll be taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge for the 10th year in a row to fight kids' cancer. This incredible ride holds a very special place in my heart. This year, I’m riding in memory of Nan, Don, Joy, Rob, Bob, Carol, Tim, and Gauge, who bravely fought but lost their battles with cancer.
Did you know that cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States? Every year, over 15,700 children are diagnosed with cancer, and tragically, 38 kids lose their lives to this disease each week.
Kids should be living life to the fullest, not fighting for it. That’s why I’m raising funds through this challenge to support the amazing work of the Children's Cancer Research Fund. Their efforts are helping to develop lifesaving treatments and move us closer to finding a cure for childhood cancer.
I would be so grateful if you could support my ride by making a donation. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference and helps give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support truly changes lives, and I can’t thank you enough for considering being part of this important cause.
If you’d like to donate or learn more about my challenge, you can visit my fundraising page here: https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Donate/Rider/119374
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! Together, we can make a difference.
